Welcome to the United States Naval Shipbuilding Museum Online. Located in historic Quincy, Massachusetts. The USNSM is home to the USS Salem, the world's only preserved Heavy Cruiser. We are located in the former Quincy Fore River Shipyard, once one of the Nation's largest Shipbuilding Enterprises.

At this time, we do not have an estimate as to when the Salem will re-open to the public. All MBTA pier repair updates will be posted on our website as they are announced.

On Friday September 20th, 2013 the MBTA notified us that they needed to close the pier where we are berthed due to emergency pier repairs; this closure required us to temporarily close the ship and museum to the public. The MBTA is working diligently to make the repairs but it could be 3 to 6 months before the needed repairs are completed.  A significant portion of our fund raising activities take place in October and November and this closure has and will significantly impact our fundraising for the fall and winter seasons. The money raised this time of year is used to purchase oil to heat the ship. The heating of the ship is our single largest expense each year. We need to purchase 6,000 gallons of fuel to make it through the winter. Your support is needed and greatly appreciated. Could you help us by buying a membership to the museum? Or by donating to our oil fund? Click here for further details.

Spend the night aboard the USS Salem with our Overnight Adventure Program! We are now scheduling groups and families for the spring and summer of 2014. Click on the overnight tab above for additional information.
