Easter Egg Hunt Aboard USS Salem
The USS Salem’s annual Easter Egg Hunt will
take place on Saturday, April 7th from noon till 3 PM
aboard the 716 foot U.S. Navy ship moored at the former Fore River
Shipyard in Quincy. Each year the Museum hosts hundreds of children
for their annual egg hunt.
“Our volunteers love this event”, said Michael
Condon, Executive Director of the Salem. “In years past we have
hidden as many as 3000 Easter Eggs, this year our goal is 4000
eggs,” added Condon.
The event is one of several major fund raisers
for the museum, which receives no city, state or federal funds for
its support. “We try and do unusual and fun events like the Easter
Egg Hunt and Haunted Ship to attract people to the ship who may not
ordinarily think of visiting the Naval Museum”, stated Condon. “The
kids get so exited, you can feel their enthusiasm”, added Volunteer
Coordinated Frank Campbell.
In addition to the Egg Hunt there are lots of
activities for the kids to enjoy including egg and cup cake
decorating, face painting and a treasure hunt.
“We organize the event so every child gets a
chance to hunt for Easter Eggs in addition to having a fun afternoon
of activities aboard the ship”, stated Campbell.
The USS Salem is located at 739 Washington St,
Quincy, adjacent to the Fore River Bridge Rotary. Activities begin
at Noon and run till 3 PM. Admission is $5 per person. For more
